Paul was born in Hollywood, California. As a preschooler, he received Christ as his Savior. Paul’s family, known as “The Bell-Ringing Rasmussens,” traveled around the USA singing and playing musical instruments, in conjunction with their father’s evangelistic preaching. When Paul was 10, his parents went as career missionaries to Brazil and Paraguay. After graduating from Trinity Bible College in Dunedin, FL., Paul trained with New Tribes Mission. He served for 25 years in Colombia, South America, where he did church planting and Bible translation among the Piapoco tribal people.
Pam grew up in Machias, Maine, and became a Christian when she was nine. The same day she was saved she knew she would be a foreign missionary. Her parents were, and still are, local business owners in Machias. She met Paul in 1966, at a youth camp in Maine, where they were both counselors. They were married a year later, and went through missionary training together. Pam helped her husband with Bible translation, did the culture analysis and filing, and taught the tribal ladies.
The Rasmussens raised four children on the mission field, all of whom love the Lord and have fine Christian homes today. Paul and Pam have ten grandchildren.
Communist rebels drove the Rasmussens out of the tribal work, but not before God raised up two churches among the Piapocos. Today, there are more than 20 of those tribal believers serving as missionaries to the lost. The Rasmussens are currently on staff at NTM’s home office in Sanford, Florida, although Paul is a “field consultant,” and often travels abroad to teach discipleship seminars. Pam is a writer and editor for the mission, and assists Paul in his ministry.
